We label our honey range to reflect the Total Activity present at the time of testing. Our testing is independent, thorough and world class. The activity levels are tested at an authorised independent laboratory in New Zealand.
Manuka honey is a mono-floral honey, so-called because the bees that make it gather pollen from the Manuka bush (Leptospermum Scoparium). The plant is indigenous to New Zealand, beekeepers set up their hives in wild uncultivated areas in which Manuka bushes grow. And what’s even better is the honey is enriched because of the pollution free environment of New Zealand.
What does Bio Active honey mean?
TA Active is a commonly used rating system that predominantly measures the naturally occurring peroxide activity in honey.
What is TA rating?
The total activity rating (TA) is a reflection of predominantly naturally occurring peroxide activity levels.
The number on the front of the Manuka Doctor Bio Active TA Manuka honey pot refers to the Total Activity Rating (TA). Check the ratings to find the perfect strength for your individual needs.
How are TA levels measured?
TA Manuka Honey (Bio Active Manuka Honey) – Manuka Doctor TA Manuka honey measures the Total Activity (TA) of the honey predominantly due to the Hydrogen Peroxide (H202) activity of the honey. The Total Activity is measured using Staphylococcus aureus NZRM 87 (ATCC 9144) and expressed as the equivalent % phenol as referenced in The University of Waikato Honey Assay Method under the Determination of Honey Activity by Bioassay Method.
